Much has happened since the last time I wrote! I have comfortably settled into Leeds and have learnt about the county of Yorkshire and some of what it has to offer. I have been to:
1. Harwood House- its a wonderful old house built in the 1800's which is still inhabited by the Queens cousin. The grounds are fabulous and it even has a bird sanctuary... I think that's what its called :-). Check it out at http://www.harewood.org/
2. Harrogate- I had the opportunity of going there for the Rotary 1040 District Conference. I spent most of the time at the conference and didn't view the city but I completely enjoyed it! I left the conference feeling inspired after seeing and hearing about all the initiatives that Rotary has been involved in to make the world a better place.
The following are some highlights from the conference:
Literacy in a Box Initiative
Trade Aid Box Initiative
Myself with my host counsellor, Mr. Richard Dickason
3. Roundhay Park- I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Rotary Club of Roundhay (my host club) to marshal a walk for the disabled around the park. The day was great fun and allowed me an opportunity to see a different part of Leeds. However, the I most enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer.. Oh, I almost forgot. I met the Mayor of Leeds :-)
Myself and the Mayor of Leeds
I guess that's all for now.
One Love,
Shaniek
